The University of Oregon Equestrian Team is a student-run organization, which provides horseback riding and competition for both undergraduate and graduate students at the University. Members can choose from a variety of riding disciplines including, English Hunt Seat, English Jumping, Western Horsemanship and Reining. The Team is supported by the UO Club Sports Department and is partially funded through the University. We are an active member of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA).

Membership requirements are important but not extensive. All members are required to attend weekly meetings, help with fundraisers, and support the team during the home show. The rewards from membership include intercollegiate competition, team togetherness, and team horse leasing and team lessons.

Members are not required to ride while at school, although those planning to compete must ride on a regular basis. The university does not own a barn or horses, but Equispirit Farms generously provides us with use of their facilities and horses for team lessons, shows and activities. Team lessons are held once a week at a time convenient for the majority of members and are taught by our coach as well as professional trainers from around the Eugene-Springfield area.

There is no fee for team membership, although those competing will be responsible for a $20-30 annual fee for IHSA membership. Travel expenses and show entries are covered by the team budget. Additional expenses are subsidized by team fundraising or individual member contribution.

Currently the team competes in Zone 8 Region 4 of the IHSA against Oregon State University, Lin-Benton Community College, Washington State University and the University of Washington.

Team membership is open to all students interested in horses. No riding experience is needed to join, in fact we need riders of all skill levels to be a competitive team. There are several different divisions offered in competition ranging from Walk/Trot (Walk/Jog) to advanced flatwork, jumping and reining.
